Memegasm! Favourite Movie Scenes

Classified under:
I usually don't polute my blog with memes, but this time I'll make an exception as I dig the content. Julie D posted on her blog her five favourite movie scenes. This is by no means a comprehensive list and I'm undoubtably forgetting tonnes of great movie moments. Without further ado, here they are.
1) The 20 minute fight scene at the end of Drunken Master 2 when Jackie Chan fights his real life body guard.
2) The hammer fight in Oldboy.
3) The first 10 minutes and the end of Dead or Alive.
4) The gun battle in Tokyo Drifter where the background colour changes from white to red as more people are killed. Truly spectacular.
5) The Burly Brawl from the Matrix Reloaded.
6) The split screen fused into one in Rules of Attraction.
7) The Richard Sagawa dance number from the Happiness of the Katakuris.
8) Middlespace in the Legend of Zu
9) The opening credit sequence for Snatch.
10) The Bride versus Gogo Yubari and the Crazy 88's in Kill Bill Volume 1.
11) Christin singing "Your Song" in Moulin Rouge and turning all the lights on in Paris.
12) Beat Takeshii killing the first student in Battle Royale.
13) The guy in Ong Bak kicking ass by kneeing guys to the head.
14) The first fight scene in the One when Jet Li fights using time dilution.
15) The seige in the Return of the King.
16) Frank and Beans from There's Something About Mary
17) Michelle Yeoh verus Zhang Zhiyi in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
18) The first 12 minutes of Blade Two.
19) The sex scene in the barracks in Enemy at the Gates, the most exciting sex scene in a movie.
20) The opening sequence from Run Lola Run.

OK, a retort if you will of my 20 favorite movie moments. The Rushmore one is probably my very favorite, and the rest are in absolutely no particular order.

The revenge montage set to the Who's "A Quick One While He's Away" in Rushmore.

The attempted suicide scene in The Royal Tenenbaums, set to the music of Elliot Smith.

The end sequence of It's A Wonderful Life when George Bailey is running around Bedford Falls screaming Merry Christmas.

Napoleon's dance in Napoleon Dynamite.

The discovery of aliens in the school and the mutilation of Jon Stewart that follows in The Faculty. I know, its a lame movie to love. Oh well.

Opening sequence of Run Lola Run.

The end house fight scene and the lead-up to it feat. The Pogues' Lorca's Novena playing in the background in Grosse Point Blank.

The video from Brazil on the news in Signs.

Truman trying to be spontaneous when he suspects something is wrong near the beginning of The Truman Show.

The final showdown in Leon the Professional.

The discovery of the half-grown pod man on the billiard table in the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

La Resistance Lives On montage sequence in South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.

Lighthouse scene in Battle Royale.

The scene of the first person helped by Amelie.

Tie: the First and last scene of Lost in Translation.

The showdown in Snatch where the Gyppos hit back, to the amazing song Fuckin in the Bushes by Oasis.

The brainwashing at the beginning of the original Manchurian Candidate.

The discovery of his powers in the first Spider-Man.

The game show finale of Mallrats.

Malkovich inside his own head in Being John Malkovich.

Let me go through your list.

I agree with you on the revenge Montage in Rushmore, although I'm much keener on the montage showing Max in all of school clubs.

I have no recollection of the suicide scene from the Royal Tenenbaums. Go figure.

The end sequence from It's a Wonderful Life has been ingrained into our pop culture concious and as a result, has had little effect on me. It's like the psycho shower scene. It's part of our pop cultural language.

Napoleon Dynamite's dance is indeed ace.

Hah hah hah. You like the Faculty.

The opening sequence on Run Lola Run is great, but you know that already.

Heh. I forgot all about the fight scene in Gross Point Blank. I perfer the "I Can See Clearly Now" hit at the beginning of the film. It really introduces the viewer to the tone of the film.

Heh. The video from Signs was the only thin that was somewhat decent from that movie. The only jump in the whole entire film.

Heh. Oldman is great. I should watch Leon again.

I havne't seen the Invation of the Body Snatchers. Shame, I know.

Amelie is full of great things. Personally, I love the beginning of the film where we learn how Amelie becomes the woman that she is. If you want to get more specific, I love the shot that tracks the train as Amelie starts helping people for the first time, and I love the bit where her soon to be boyfriend sees the mysterious man for the first time.

Scarlet Johansen in panties? Sold!

I think that the Spiderman montage with him helping everyone intercut with the people talking about their experiences is much better than the discovery of the powers scene, but to each their own.

As for Being John Malcovich, the flashback to the ape was by far the best scene in the movie.

The thing with the end of Its a Wonderful Life is that whole movie I can truly say, start to finish, has always left a deep impact on me. Its always felt intensly personal, and the ending, cliche though it may be, is a really big payoff for me.

As to your suggestions of other scenes in noted movies, I sometimes agree with you. But most of these are my favorite movies of all time anyway, so pretty much throw a rock and whatever scene it lands on is a favorite.
